Peter Mears (b. 1988, Hampshire, UK) works with sculpture and installation to explore relationality through the rhythms and disjunctions of composition and surface. In his works, the fragility of porcelain becomes a stand-in for bodies both interconnected and individual through their vulnerability. Process is integral to their essence: Mears’s objects are developed ritualistically from ‘scripts’–patterns conceived through the influence of musical scores– which provide both constants and variables. The vessels which they produce are equal parts fragile and resilient; disjointed and whole; related and separate.
Mears studied architecture at the University of Applied Arts Vienna (Die Angewandte), spatial design at the University of Brighton, and art and design at Falmouth. Recent exhibitions include: Open Studio, Hampshire, UK (2025), Facade, Hampshire, UK (2024), Push Pull, Hampshire, UK (2024), Hands, 8 Holland St, London, UK (2024), and Trace, Mint Gallery, London, UK (2024).
